Le plateau de Mont-Dauphin

Uplands in Mont-Dauphin
  • The Place Forte of Mont-Dauphin, a remarkable geological site, is built on a rock of 'poudingue' (detrital sedimentary rock agglomerating ancient pebbles).

  • The ramparts of the fortress are made of marble limestone which gives Mont-Dauphin its pink color. In the cliffs nest birds such as the great horned owl and the tichodrome échelette. Bats "molosses de Cestonie" nest in the cliffs and hunt in the ramparts. An important colony of small and large murins (bats) nest in a barrack.
