Description
Vis à Vis explores the rupture and our impulse to carry on despite the fracture. Two presences face each other, between absurdity and lucidity. A sensitive dance in which bodies and emotions seek a way to transform, reinvent and move forward.
The etymology of the expression "vis à vis" comes from the Old French word vis, meaning "face".
Originally, vis à vis meant "face to face".
Vis à Vis is a contemporary dance piece that explores the complexity of feelings linked to rupture, and questions our ability to create continuity in a moment of fracture. Through the exploration of three per-sonnages animated by dance-theatre, the performers seek to make visible the internal movements that run through them, their singularity, and the tensions between individuality and the impulse towards the other.
By facing themselves and each other, the characters come to terms with their reality.
A door, as the only scenic object, helps to establish a confusing spatio-temporal context. By coming up against the persistence and immobility of the door, the characters confront the symbolism of passage, transformation and impasse. Sprinkled with absurdity and a sense of powerlessness, the piece questions the meaning of existence, the place we are assigned and refuse, and our ability to transform ourselves in order to move forward.
