Pied du Mélezet, 05600 Ceillac

Description

A long, multi-faceted walk.
From the parking lot, follow the Mélezet stream before turning right onto the trail as if heading toward Lac Miroir. Leave the GR at the first fork to the right before the footbridge and follow the Pisse stream upstream to the Pas du Curé. From the pass, you can admire Mont Viso on one side and the Vallon des Pelouses on the other—a paradise for alpine flowers and marmots. Further on, at the Andrevez sheepfold, another short climb to the right reveals a magnificent view of the Ecrins. The trail continues along a ridgeline to the Mourière lookout point, this time offering a beautiful view of the Ceillac Valley. The descent through the woods is steep in places but eventually leads gently back to the village. In spring and fall, conditions are changeable; even without snow, the trail can be icy. Therefore, when in the mountains, the rule of thumb is to “go out well-equipped.” In my backpack, I slip in or clip on: crampons and trekking poles. In winter, the essentials are: snowshoes, poles, gloves, a hat, sunscreen, and… a survival blanket! Experience is key, and knowing when to turn back is sometimes better than taking risks. And for those new to the mountains, we recommend hiring a professional! Before heading out, I check the Météo France Montagnes weather reports and the BERA (avalanche and risk alerts).
