Nordic skiing

A White Paradise

200 kilometers of pistes dedicated to Nordic skiing. We all ski to school here, so we know all about Nordic skiing. If you’d like to enjoy our playground, you’re spoilt for choice: Arvieux, Molines-St-Véran, Abriès and Ceillac offer you an assortment of Nordic activities.

Parallel skiing

or by chance?

Narrow with a free heel, cross-country skiing seems to offer the perfect cocktail for breaking a bone. That’s true, and that’s why, as a great beginner, you’ll prefer to stay in the tracks for a while, or to take lessons. In this type of skiing, known as “classic” or “alternative”, you’ll be moving and walking. Of course, this original technique becomes very sporty when, instead of scales, you put on non-return wax and try to go fast! Soon you’ll feel comfortable enough to skate like a duck all the time, even uphill. Less waxing, less friction, everything will go much faster and skating will be a revelation. In the Queyras, the ex-tra-ordi-nary night work of the groomers means you can practice both techniques everywhere… With over 150 km of pistes, you’ll have plenty to do. What’s more, international competitors have understood this and come early in the season to prepare in high elevation.

Groomer bulletin

All Nordic areas open from December 23, 2023 to March 24, 2024. Pre-opening of the Arvieux ski area on Saturday December 9, 2023.

Everything you need to know

Shared itineraries

Each of the 4 Nordic sites in the Queyras is open to all types of skiing. But to enable cross-country skiers to take full advantage of the beautiful, well-groomed trails for which they pay a fee, other users must avoid their reserved areas. Snowshoe walkers, backcountry skiers, pedestrians and fatbikers all use the specific or shared itineraries classified as “mountain”. These too are groomed, so that everyone can enjoy the site in harmony. And since they also require ongoing maintenance, your free voluntary work is welcome!

Nordic ideas

Nordic skiing is infinitely variable in the Queyras. If you’re a long-distance enthusiast, you’ll be able to rack up dozens of kilometers on the “Escartons high trail”. If you’re a hardy or contemplative skier, you’ll want to keep an eye out for the daily grooming bulletins posted online, so you don’t miss out on the “Intégrales des grands Cols”, a great opportunity to meet up and slide together.
