Description
Standing alone in the middle of the plain, Sainte-Cécile church is all the more striking for its soaring bell tower, which is much higher than the nave and choir.
You’re probably wondering why this church is so far from any homes. It is, in fact, located 760 meters from the town center of Ceillac and more than 200 meters from the hamlet of La Clapière. The answer may lie… underground. It’s believed that the Church of Sainte-Cécile was originally surrounded by the hamlet of La Clapière, which was likely relocated following natural disasters. Only an archaeological survey could confirm or rule out the presence of house ruins around the building!
