Rue des Grangeons

Historic site and monument, Historic patrimony, House in Saint-Crépin
  • Do you know what a grangeon is?

  • The grangeon is an attic above the "stables". The stable is the room, often boasting a superb vaulted ceiling with one or two columns, where farm animals live: sheep, goats, cows and horses. The "montage", a wooden or paved platform, is used to lift the hay into the barn. There is a hole in the floor of the barn, the "pasturier", into which the hay is pushed and which falls directly into the manger. It is rare for the "montages" to have been so well preserved when the houses were restored....
