L'église Sainte-Cécile

Historic site and monument, Religious heritage, Church in Ceillac
  • Standing alone in the middle of the plain, Sainte-Cécile church is all the more striking for its soaring bell tower, which is much higher than the nave and choir.

  • You're probably wondering why this church is so far away from people's homes? It stands 760 metres from the main town of Ceillac and over 200 metres from the hamlet of La Clapière. Well, perhaps the answer lies ... underground. It is thought that the church of Sainte-Cécile was once surrounded by the hamlet of La Clapière, which may have been displaced by natural disasters. Only an archaeological survey can confirm or rule out the presence of remains of houses around the building!
