Bread ovens, like fountains, are an essential part of rural mountain life. Water and bread: a frugal daily food staple that was still relevant at the beginning of the 20th century. Each hamlet had its own oven. Bread was baked to preserve it for days or even weeks. A world apart from the baguette we know and love today.
