In the Queyras, there are unspoilt valleys where magnificent landscapes are revealed to the world.
-
The Ségure valley, off the beaten track, is a gateway to wild, protected nature. The walk here is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful representations of the Queyrassine mountains. The mountain pastures are covered with flowers in spring before the arrival of the ewes.

1 - Ristolas église de St Marcelin
To reach the Ségure mountain pasture, you have to take a long, winding track starting in Ristolas. From the church, I take the Rue des Ecoles opposite to reach the top of the village.
2 - The Ségure valley
The beautiful path winds up the long valley of the Ségure torrent. It's well laid out and wide. What a pleasure it is to cycle through this valley, rich in flora and fauna! At dawn or at the end of the day, the ibex show their muzzles. These large ungulates are not very shy. More timid, chamois take refuge in the scree and steepest slopes of the valley. They remain the symbol of wild nature.
3- The Ségure torrent
As you ascend, the echoes of the "torrent de Ségure (1,966 m)" echo through the valley. In the distance, shepherds and shepherdesses lead their grazing animals towards the flowery meadows: their powerful voices are the echo of life in the mountain pastures.
4 - A fork in the road
To the left, a path rises up: it leads hikers to the summit of Pic Ségure, almost 3,000 meters above sea level. I don't take the latter and continue straight ahead along the unknown valley. Off-center from the Mont-Viso lookout that attracts so many hikers, here I touch a certain paradise.
5 - Plan de l'Alpe
I skirt the Ségure sheepfold and reach the end of the valley. In the flower-filled meadows of "Plan de l'Alpe (2,250 m)", where marmots run about, I place my mountain bike on the carpet without damaging it. The yellow of the arnicas meets the blue hues of the gentians and centauries. The ancient glacial cirque is bordered by the Grand Queyras (3,104 m) and the Fonzes ridge. The only authorized path allowed me to enter the heart of unspoilt nature and experience all its magnificence.
6 - Ristolas
The return journey takes the same route. In just a few minutes, I'm back in Ristolas, happy to have discovered a wild, unspoilt valley.
Don't forget to take enough water with you: the valley is wild and isolated.
Before setting off on this hike far from any habitation, be sure to check out the risk of thunderstorms, which often occur in late August afternoons.
