Largely influenced by African music, especially Cameroon and its Bikutsi rhythm, Congo, rumba and their love for guitarists like Jimi Hendrix, Théodore Epeme dit "Zanzibar", Flamme Kapaya, Célestine Ukwu or Wes Montgomery.
Through original compositions and arrangements, La Sève, 3 guitars and a drum kit, explore the possibilities of making feet tap, hips sway and bodies vibrate with lost strings!
Legiana collective 6:00 pm / espace Guinguette
Netherlands - Polyphonic folk
This international group, with members from the Netherlands, Spain, Italy and Denmark, is based in the Netherlands. Together, the 9 musicians of Legiana Collective play original compositions and traditional pieces from around the world, tinged with modern folk.
With Legiana Collective, the emphasis is on the harmonic blend of the voices of the four female singers, accompanied by acoustic instrumentation. The powerful voices sing poetic tales from Northern and Eastern Europe, the Mediterranean and the Americas, adding their own rich, multilingual sound.
Legiana concerts are always lively, theatrical and danceable, exuding a love of sharing. Prepare to be swept away by the organic, unforgettable sounds of Legiana Collective. Their aim: to make the audience have as much fun as they do!
Deli Teli 8:45pm / Chapiteau
Gathered around the sacrosanct triptych of bongo, bouzouki and Farfisa organ, the Greco-Marseille-based Deli Teli revisit the forgotten hits of Laïko, the music that set Athenian nights alight just as Saint-Tropez was rocking to the sound of Yéyé, with a fiery energy and a subtle dose of Mediterranean melodrama.
Half a century ago, Greek music had a huge influence on the Mediterranean basin and far beyond; the song "Boum Pam" (aka "Bros Gremos Kai Piso Rema"), beautifully performed by Deli Teli on this album, was a hit from southern Europe to India! Far from being exclusively Greek, "Tsifteteli" has crossed many borders and means "double string" in Turkish. In the 60s, it blended with rock'n'roll, surf and Latin American sounds to create the Laïko.
With the powerful electric bouzouki (Greek lute) and the classic Farfisa organ, Deli Teli has forged its style by drawing on the goldmine of Tsifteteli/Laïko 45s produced in the 60s and 70s. The 4 musicians reunited in 2019 with a burning desire to plunge into electric sensations (bassist Christos Karypidis was an oud player for a long time, and keyboardist Arthur Bacon left his accordion on the sidelines), and took advantage of the "hollow" moments of 2020 to build a solid repertoire.
Deli Teli preaches a collective, sensual and sunny sway to the dancefloors of the rest of the world... All you have to do is join the "Tsifteteli Club"!
Saodaj 10.15pm / Big Top
If Réunion is a crossroads where the world's cultures meet, Saodaj could be one of its symbols. A music that questions, through the Creole and French languages, the beauties and excesses of our world. Saodaj, a sensitive vision of the world, blending modernity and tradition through a committed contemporary music: After 300 concerts on La Réunion and abroad, Marie Lanfroy, Jonathan Itéma and their group are now working on their first album: "Laz" (age in Reunionese Creole). Recorded at Studio Oasis (Reunion Island) in August 2020 by Brice Nauroy and Vincent Heckel. The writing on this album combines the poetry of the Creole and French languages, traditional Maloya* percussion and classical instruments such as the cello. Emancipation, justice, resilience: with passion and humility, the lyrics are indignant, the lyrics dream.
Maloya: traditional music from Reunion Island
Les pythons de la fournaise 11:45pm / Chapiteau
Les Pythons de la Fournaise play sega and maloya, traditional and popular music from the Indian Ocean. The 7 musicians of the Franco Créole band offer an electric fusion of these syncopated, danceable styles. The songs, all sung in Reunionese and Mauritian Creole, are a syncretism of Afro-Malagasy, Indian and Western cultures.
In reference to the golden age of 70's sega, Les Pythons de la Fournaise today offer their own vision of Reunionese music, with a modern style nourished by jazz and funk influences. Traditional instruments rub shoulders with bass, drums and electric guitars in a set dedicated to dance. A mix of island ballads and cyclonic grooves.
