This documentary tells the story of events in Nouméa in 2024, in the presence of director Aurélie Macedo.
May 2024. Nouméa goes up in flames. For several days, the Caledonian capital was rocked by unprecedented rioting. At the heart of the revolt was an angry Kanak youth, outraged by the plan to unfreeze the electoral body, seen as a threat to their future and to Kanak independence.
In Magenta Tours, one of Nouméa's largest working-class neighborhoods, life is turning upside down. Here, between the towers, young people are fighting for a cause, the elders are trying to temper the situation, and families are living in anxiety about tomorrow.
This documentary, shot on location during and after the riots, tells their story: the revolt, the fractures, but also the strength and commitment of those who, despite everything, are trying to rebuild a future.
