Have you heard the story of our Saint Guillaume and his famous hand?
Guillaume was a shepherd from the hamlet of Gros who unfortunately had no right hand. In spring, while tending his sheep, he heard the sound of a rising flood in the Guil and Durance rivers. So he rushed to the neighbouring monastery to warn them. But the monks refused to listen despite his insistence. After a difficult night in which the elements were unleashed, Guillaume woke up and rubbed his eyes - with both hands! God had given him a second hand to go and convince the monks! He returned to the monastery, where this time he was able to persuade the monks to leave and evacuate the local people. Even though everything was swept away by the flood, those who took refuge on the heights were saved!
When St William died, his miraculous hand refused to stay buried! It has since been preserved in the chapel dedicated to it.
Even today, on Easter Monday, a fair and mass are held at St Guillaume.
