The Guillestrois

and its villages

Welcome to the Guillestrois!

The Guillestrois? Guillestre and its surrounding villages. A little corner of paradise in the middle of the French Alps.

An area that’s alive all year round, in the heart of the Hautes-Alpes département, nestled between the “Parc national des Écrins” and “the Parc naturel régional du Queyras”. The Guillestrois is a land of contrasts, where Provence meets the high and mid-mountains. Here, mild sunny days combine with cool, refreshing nights. Here, southern lavender rubs shoulders with genepi and high-altitude larche trees. Here, the Guil and Durance rivers sculpt the valleys. In fine weather, snow-capped mountains trade their white mantle for soft green meadows.

The Guillestrois region is a concentrate of nature, offering a wide range of activities throughout the seasons.

In short, it’s the perfect place to bring your suitcases and settle down!

Six villages

For six arts of living

Guillestre is easy to get to, and at the crossroads of the main roads. A charming town of just over 2,000 souls, you’ll find all the amenities you need, and a wide choice of accommodation. With its colorful facades and gentle way of life, Guillestre is a great place to take the time to discover. Lose yourself in the old town, stroll through the market, find treasures in the boutiques, or sit down at one of the cafés to catch up on old times. And if you feel like getting away from it all, you’ll enjoy wandering through the surrounding villages, or choosing them as your holiday destination. They all have a story to tell. The Mont-Dauphin ramparts, the written stones of Saint-Crépin, the dolce vita of the Eygliers lake, the intimate alleyways of Saint-Clément or the grace of the Petrifying Fountain at Réotier… so many atmospheres to discover.

All roads start here

Just 20 minutes away from the Queyras, L’Argentière-la-Bessée – one of the gateways to the Ecrins mountain range – and the Serre-Ponçon Lake, the Guillestrois gives you an easy access to the whole département. It’s THE practical, strategic base camp for expanding your horizons! In summer, after a great hiking day in one of the Parks, cool off at the lake, like an ocean vibe in the mountains. For cycling dingos, the many itineraries and passes nearby make the Guillestrois an ideal starting point for warming up your calves: Agnel, Izoard, Galibier, Lautaret, Granon or Vars, their legends are just waiting for yours… In winter, the different mountain ranges are playgrounds for those who want to try out ski touring, hurtle down the alpine trails in the ski resorts of the Queyras, the “Forêt Blanche” area with the resorts of Vars and Risoul, or explore the Nordic itineraries in the Queyras’ perched, unspoilt valleys. From here, the possibilities are endless – You decide!
