A string of hamlets seeking for Izoard

Why stay in Arvieux?

With its mythical Izoard Pass and its “Casse Déserte”, a marvel of the Dauphiné region, you’ll discover one of the most famous valleys in the Alps. On foot, by bike or on a motorcycle in summer; snowshoeing, skiing or fat-biking in winter, Arvieux is an endless haven of scenery and fun. Whether you’re climbing, paragliding, hanging around lakes or lounging under larch trees, the problem with Arvieux is that you want to do it all at once. Under the eye of the spectacular Roche Brune Peak, the western pillar of the Queyras at over 3,300 meters, you’ll zigzag from lakes to sheepfolds, between alpine chalets of Furfande and Clapeyto. And then you’ll understand that one day, you’ll have to come back again…

Village presentation

As if it had nine lives, most of Arvieux’s hamlets have crystal-clear names. Le “Coin” (the corner), La “Chalp” (little pasture) or Les “Moulins”(windmills)… as clear as the rushing water of the torrents that irrigate them, as bright as the sun that never fails to shine. Do we live here longer than elsewhere? In any case, we live well here. As evidenced by the broad smile that seems to be frozen on elders faces who invariably (and whatever your age) say “hey! What’s up, kid? Walking around Arvieux takes several days, as you’ll have to climb a whole valley from the deep “Combe du Guil” to the old chalets “up there on the mountain”. In between, a visit to a goat farm, exhibitions at the “Maison du Parc” (The Park Center), Spas and wooden toys will have thrilled your senses. Here, time slows down because it’s never empty of meaning.

The downhill ski area

In Arvieux, the peace and quiet replace the big boulevards and queues from great industrial cities! You’ll ski in the heart of larch forests, at the foot of the mythical Izoard Pass to be discovered by snowshoeing or cross-country skiing, with the magnificent Pic du Grand Rochebrune as a backdrop.
