Description
The Tibetan or Buddhist Monks' Tour brings together monks from Himalayan regions such as Ladakh (Indian Tibet) and Nepal.
The event's program includes a mandala-making workshop, a photo exhibition, a craft sale, and film screenings.
The tour by Tibetan Buddhist monks from the Ladakh region in northern India was first organized in 2009 by the Tibetan Cultural Association of Nîmes and its president, Aimé Fages.
Their tour of France will feature a variety of activities: mandala-making, singing performances, meditation, calligraphy, and a craft sale—all events designed to raise funds to ensure the long-term survival of the Ngari Institute in Saboo, near Leh, the capital of Ladakh.
Founded in 1995 by the monk Geshe Dawa, this institution is dedicated to the teaching, preservation, and promotion of Tibetan culture. It provides year-round housing and education to children from villages nestled deep in the Himalayan valleys.
Currently, 70 children are cared for by the institute; 40 live permanently at the Ngari boarding school, and 30 others are pursuing their studies in other major cities across India.
