Description
Head to Zanskar, in the heart of the Himalayas! Amid traditions, spirituality, and bursts of laughter, this documentary offers a glimpse into the daily lives of Buddhist nuns. An exotic journey, full of humanity and wonderful encounters!
For a long time there were eleven or twelve of them; now there are thirteen. Thirteen nuns practicing Tibetan Buddhism who, through their prayers, watch over souls from the village of Tungri in Zanskar, the most remote province in northern India, at the foot of the great Himalayan range.
Setting out from Leh, in Ladakh, Caroline Riegel embarks on a long trek of about 100 kilometers, in the middle of winter, to join them at their convent at an altitude of over 3,700 meters. Accompanied by two of these nuns and some villagers, the filmmaker follows the course of the ice-bound Tchadar River. The small group’s progress is arduous and the path uncertain. Moreover, the dangers are numerous. Expected to last two days, the journey will ultimately take ten.
