Description

Tonight, the sky will treat us to one of its most beautiful spectacles. A solar eclipse will occur, and it will be total in Spain. From the Queyras, we’ll be lucky enough to see a partial eclipse that’s 94% total.
It will also be very low on the western horizon, just before sunset. Unfortunately, due to our beautiful mountains in the Hautes-Alpes, it will not be visible from many locations in the department. Therefore, with the help of the team at the Paul Felenbok Observatory—located at an altitude of 2,936 meters—and the AstroQueyras association, we will be offering a live stream of the images captured by their instruments on-site at the observatory. The broadcast will take place at the Maison du Soleil et de l’Astronomie, in the village of Saint-Véran. The evening will begin with a lecture on eclipses, led by Gilles Barouch, scientific coordinator of the OSO (Solar Observatory) project at the Observatoire de Haute-Provence, in an open discussion with J. Mordelet, director of the Maison du Soleil et de l’Astronomie. The public will be free to ask questions and interact with the science educators throughout the evening, during the live broadcast of the eclipse and following the lecture.
