The Maison du Soleil welcomes physicist Gilles Barouch for a talk dedicated to Edwin Hubble and the fascinating story of his discovery of the expansion of the Universe.
At the beginning of the XXᵉ century, Edwin Hubble discovered the expansion of the Universe, but with a strongly erroneous value for its speed. This error, long accepted, reminds us that science is also a human adventure, made up of choices, instruments and biases.

American astronomer Edwin Hubble is best known for demonstrating that the Universe is not fixed, but expanding. Through his observations of galaxies, he discovered that the further away a galaxy is, the faster it moves away from us. This discovery completely changed our understanding of the cosmos.

His work laid the foundations for the Big Bang theory and marked a major turning point in the history of modern astronomy.

Even today, his name is associated with the famous Hubble Space Telescope, which continues to explore the Universe and send spectacular images from space.

In conclusion, Edwin Hubble played an essential role in our understanding of the Universe, and remains a key figure in science.
