You leave Saint-Véran and its remarkable architecture, to reach the Clausis Chapel. From its promontory, it dominates the entire Aigue Blanche valley. Then the “Roi de Pierre” appears before you from the Chamoussière Pass. Ascent: 830 m. D+ / 300 m. D- Stage duration: 5h30
The Vieux Pass is easily reached after spending the night at altitude in the Agnel refuge. To the right, the Pain de sucre, opposite the crête de la Taillante… A long descent awaits you, past magnificent tiered lakes. The “vallon des lacs” is home to a very fragile arctic-type flora that should not be trampled underfoot. Difference in altitude: 230 m. D+ / 1120 m. D- Stage duration: 5h
Between alpine pastures and larche forests, the trail takes you up to the ridges. The aerial traverse offers superb views of the surrounding peaks on both sides, overlooking the surrounding villages and hamlets. Don’t forget to turn around and say hello to Viso once again. A long stage that makes an infidelity to the Queyras to discover the Briançonnais! Head for The Fonds de Cervières and its little chalets, but before that, the superb Malrif lakes will offer you a refreshing break. Ascent: 1290 m. D+ / 790 m. D- Stage duration: 6h30
Back to Queyras! The path takes you up to the mountain pastures to reach the Péas Pass. To your right is the Rochebrune Peak(3321m), which will accompany you on the descent to the hamlet of Souliers. Difference in altitude: 590 m. D+ / 800 m. D- Stage duration: 5h
Back on the GR, you’ll follow a small stream to reach a sheepfold in the middle of the larche trees. The Tronchet Rio is not far off! Why not make a detour to the Souliers Lake before heading back down to Arvieux? Ascent: 510 m. D+ / 660 m. D-Stage duration: 4h
Do you like trees? You’re in luck with this beautiful climb in the forest, where the sound of the stream and birdsongs will accompany you till the Furfande pass. Behind the pass, the scenery is idyllic, with chalets all over the mountain. Ascent: 820 m. D+ / 210 m. D- Stage duration: 5h
Bramousse is in sight, just across the road! You start the day with a long descent to the Guil. The smell of pine trees, crossing Les Escoyères and then a steep descent to the Guil before heading up the other side. Ascent: 210 m. D+ / 1000 m. D-Stage duration: 4h30
Last day! We’ve almost come to a full circle! But first, you’ll leave the remarkable hamlet of Bramousse and head up the valley. Alpine pastures, chalets and cembro pines surround you all the way to the pass of the same name. Ceillac is right behind you, just a little further down! Ascent: 850 m. D+ / 590 m.
