Mirror Lake

In the kingdom of Narcissus

Mirror Lake is the Queyras’ DNA. A mountain lake surrounded by larch trees of bursting colors. Water and land come together to create a memorable setting. It’s a soothing place, surrounded with forest. One of those places where, child or adult, you will remember. So, what you waiting for ?

A nature break

Press pause while you are in unspoilt nature. Why not spend the day here? This is your playground so you can make the most of it. Kids are already playing in the water and looking at their reflection. Later on, they’ll probably go bug watching. That should keep them busy for a while. Take advantage of this moment to enjoy the peace and quiet. A book, a yoga session with a view, a siesta in the grass, what is it going to be?

Each season is a rediscovery, an enchantment. In autumn, when the first sprinkling of snow hits the mountain tops, the larch trees are a braze. From gold to copper in a matter of a few weeks, the forest takes on shades of yellow, orange and red. Getting to see a sun rise with the lake covered in so many colors will astound you. In winter, the lake takes on its white coat, and the only noise that will disturb the silence will be the crackling sound of the snow under your feet while snowshoeing or ski touring. Wildlife hibernates and the pace is slowing. In this peaceful white paradise, you have to keep a low profile. A better way to be reborn in spring.

Catching fire - Larch trees

Reaching the top...

At Saint-Anne Lake

If you still have it in you, keep up and add an extra mile to reach the Saint-Anne Lake, achievable by both hiking boots in the summer or snowshoes in the winter. You will have a distinct scenery, where larch trees are replaced by a more mineral atmosphere and turquoise-blue water. In winter, you can have a glimpse of the frozen lake under the snow. If you prefer to make a loop, the descent can be from the valley bottom, but be beware: this will lengthen your hike! If you are hiking with kids, we would advise you to keep Saint-Anne Lake for another day. Discover Lac Saint-Anne

Good to know !

During the winter, you have to limit exposure to avalanche risk and disturbance of wildlife and this takes numerous precautions. It’s a good idea to be accompanied by a mountain guide to grasp the great outdoors in the winter.

On the footsteps of the GR5, the Grand Alpine Crossing

The route you’re taking is a portion of one of the “great walks” of France, here, the GR5. It’s name “the Grand Alpine Crossing” stands for hiking from Lake Geneva to the Mediterranean sea, finishing in Nice. It’s a 600km journey over hills and valleys, from the glaciers of the Alps to the beaches of the South of France!
