Description

A via ferrata winding through cliffs, whitewater, and ancient stones. Above the Guil River and at the foot of Fort Queyras, the route winds along both banks, crossing suspended footbridges and offering several alternative routes. It’s the perfect way to get a little higher up!
Here, the via ferrata winds its way through the rock along the Guil River beneath the walls of Fort Queyras—a route where thrills, scenery, and heritage come together in close harmony. The starting point is located just past the Pasquet Bridge, in the Gorges de Château. The first section follows the left bank of the Guil River before offering several options to choose from. Suspended footbridges, cable crossings, and cliff-side trails punctuate the route. Two variations allow you to tailor the adventure to your preferences and skill level: Option 1 – 120 m of via ferrata and 2 footbridges More challenging, this option adds a bit of excitement to the route. It’s designed for climbers comfortable with vertical terrain and includes two additional footbridges. Option 2 – 400 m of via ferrata and 1 footbridge More accessible, this approximately 400-meter route runs along the cliffs to the Fort Queyras area. A footbridge allows you to cross the Guil River and enjoy the site from a perspective that’s unique, to say the least. The starting point is the same for both routes until the first escape route. At this point, two options emerge: continue on the historic route along the left bank or cross the footbridge to join the red-marked trail on the right bank. The red route crosses the Guil once again at the second fork to rejoin the historic trail. Further on, a third footbridge takes you back to the right bank, where you continue on to Fort Queyras. This final section presents no particular difficulty. Those who prefer to stay on the left bank continue along the historic route, which features short cable crossings and offers more shelter from the sun. The route on the right bank, on the other hand, offers a more rocky landscape and is more exposed to the sun. And to extend the heritage adventure: admission to Fort Queyras is offered at a reduced rate to climbers who arrive equipped with their via ferrata gear. What a unique way to reach the fort’s gates… via the cliff rather than the trail! Minimum height: 1.25 m. Take your water bottle with you, especially on the right bank against the wall, where it can get very hot!
