A full day exploring the Durance River in individual expedition kayaks. A “slow tourism” outing: we’ll paddle down the river to discover the valley’s secrets and then retrace our steps by train. A gentle introduction to kayaking and packrafting.
A packraft is an inflatable expedition kayak designed for adventure. Ultra-lightweight and very compact when folded, it fits into a backpack and allows you to access the river or return to the starting point on foot or by public transportation.
Our adventure will begin in Eygliers: we’ll set out on foot toward our launch site, located between the Simoust Plateau and Mont-Dauphin—a stunning conglomerate gorge that bears witness to the last ice age.
We’ll reach the Durance by paddling and spend the entire day floating down its turquoise waters amid the colors of fall. We’ll have lunch by the water’s edge. Once we arrive in Embrun, we’ll get out of the water, fold up the packrafts, and head to the train station to board our train and return to our starting point at 5:30 p.m.
Dry belongings will be stored in waterproof bags for the duration of the outing.
