A Wild Getaway in Ceillac, Following the Trail of the Bois Noir Canal
From Ceillac, the slope gradually descends into a larch forest. As you gain elevation, the trail narrows and becomes more technical. You’ll follow the Canal du Bois Noir—a historic waterway built to irrigate the land and support local activities—along a remarkable ridge trail that reveals the surrounding peaks. The route then alternates between climbs and technical descents, hairpin turns, and narrow passages. The return trip is gentle, leaving you with the feeling of having crossed a mountain that is both wild and inhabited.
The route is open to the public year-round. It is accessible depending on weather and snow conditions. You must therefore wear appropriate gear.
