Departing from the village of Aiguilles, this hike promises to be a sporty one! The Eygliers wood will soon give way to the mountain pastures before reaching the Serre de l'Aigle ridge and its breathtaking view over the Malrif valley. The arrival at the Lac du Grand Laus is a reward for all your efforts. Take the camera out of your bag for an unforgettable photo of Mont Viso. For the more motivated, climb up to Lac de Mezan, lined with greenery and populated by cottongrass, then to Lac du Petit Laus (2804 m) with its mineral atmosphere. Return by the same route. To complete a loop and discover another side of the valley, descend to Abriès via the superb Bertins valley. At the village of Abriès-Ristolas, you can return to Aiguilles with the Escarton shuttle bus (during summer school vacations).
Conditions in spring and autumn are variable, and even without snow, the trail may be icy, so be sure to equip yourself accordingly (crampons, poles). In winter, the best reflexes are: snowshoes, poles, gloves, hat, sun cream and... a survival blanket! Before setting out, it's a good idea to consult the Météo France Montagnes and BERA bulletins (risks and avalanches). Experience is essential, and knowing when to give up is preferable to taking risks. And if you're new to the mountains, don't hesitate to call in a professional!
