Le plateau de Mont-Dauphin
Uplands
in Mont-Dauphin
-
The Place Forte de Mont-Dauphin, a remarkable geological site, is built on a rock of 'poudingue' (detrital sedimentary rock agglomerating ancient pebbles).
-
The stronghold’s ramparts are made of marble limestone, which gives Mont-Dauphin its pink colour. The cliffs are home to birds such as the Eurasian Eagle Owl and the wallcreeper. European Free-tailed bats nest in the cliffs and hunt in the ramparts. A large colony of lesser and greater mouse-eared bats nest in a barracks.
