La Tulipe de Guillestre

  • Natural wonder
Jardin de la Maison de la Nature, 05600 Guillestre
The true star of Guillestre! An endemic species that is unique in the world, it is the only wild tulip in the Hautes-Alpes. A beautiful purplish plant with a blue rim, it has an entire plot dedicated to it at the Maison de la Nature, where it blooms in April/May.
By 2025, visits to the garden will not be possible.
Extinct since the 1850s, the Risoul naturalist parish priest has been able to rediscover the plant. Since then, the Maison de la Nature des Hautes-Alpes, in partnership with the Gap Charance botanical conservatory, has multiplied the bulbs, which can be seen in bloom in May in the Maison de la Nature garden.
Guided tours of the Guillestre tulip garden are offered by the Maison de la Nature to tell you all about the history and specific features of tulips in general and the Guillestre tulip in particular. Appointment around April-May, depending on flowering (see events pages for precise dates).
