Engraved stones

Historic site and monument, Historic patrimony, Ruins and remains in Abriès-Ristolas
  • Spring 1945... Dozens of engraved stones, which traditionally adorned the façades of since-destroyed houses, are abandoned in the rubble being cleared away.

  • Only a few stones are miraculously extracted from the ruins and find a place on a facade, at the corner of a new farmhouse or at random on a low wall... Counting those engraved stones that were saved by the skin of their teeth and the rare ones that didn't disappear during the war, some forty petroglyphs still dot the streets and buildings of the village today. We now invite you to discover part of this unique heritage.
Free documentation can be collected from the Abriès reception point.
