Four banal, La Font

Historic site and monument, Historic patrimony, Bread oven, 18th C in Eygliers
  • Today we are still admiring this stone building covered with larch shingles but remember that in the past we did not eat hot baguette every morning!

  • When the oven was lit, all the families took turns cooking. The order of passage changed because the first one did not have an advantage, he had to heat the oven! It consumed more wood. The bread was then stored for months on racks in an airy room. As the bread hardened over time, it was no longer possible to cut it. It had to be grated before being put in milk or soup.
